Enid Wilson’s REALLY ANGELIC; a re-telling of Jane Austen’s PRIDE AND PREJUDICE “with a steamy paranormal twist” brings new meaning to the phrases “devilishly tempting” and “deliciously erotic.”  In this tale, Elizabeth Bennet is an angel who falls through a crack in the sky, lands in a forest near Pemberley, and is found and raised by the Bennet family as one of their own.  It’s not until Michael, the Lost Angel Commissioner, finds Elizabeth that her true lineage and life’s mission (before returning to Himins, a Heaven equivalent) is made known.  To Elizabeth’s dismay, she is responsible for ensuring the safety of none other than the lofty and arrogant Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

As Mr. Darcy’s guardian, Elizabeth can deny him nothing.  When he calls, she must come.  If trouble finds him, she must do everything in her power to protect him.  Simply put, she can’t say ‘no’ to him.  But it’s when he subconsciously calls for her, in his dream state, which gets Elizabeth’s blood boiling; for it’s in such reveries where Mr. Darcy can live his innermost sexual fantasies of her.  For all his uptight, pretentious airs, and despite her complete unsuitability for someone of his stature, he wants her.  He wants her with the unbridled passion of a barn full of stallions.  In his “dreams,” she gives him everything he wants.  And despite her upbringing as a proper gentlewoman, something inside her equally calls out to sate, as well as be sated by him.

With rank and title prejudices soaring, will Mr. Darcy be able to overcome his bigotry and declare his love for Elizabeth?  Being duty-bound to see to Mr. Darcy’s “every need” goes against every lesson Elizabeth was ever taught, yet she has no choice but to lay back and “enjoy the ride.”  For certain, the passion Mr. Darcy is awakening in her is as fervent as his, but when all is said and done, could there be more on her part than just obligation?

If I started reading REALLY ANGELIC with a well-manicured coif, freshly ironed clothes, and were primly sitting in my comfortable, leather arm chair, I came out of the read thrown on the floor, hair sexily tussled, a youthful rosy tinge to my cheeks, and a look of pure satisfaction that reached down from my eyes to the corners of my upturned lips.  That’s what reading this story was like.  Mr. Darcy is sometimes awkward, always aloof, and occasionally haughty; but he’s also insatiable and sexy and truth be told – a little bit dirty.  And I liked it!  Elizabeth is sharp, intelligent, and while part of her wants to stay proper, she enjoys being wanton.  Now that’s an angel I could relate to and appreciate!

Together, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are explosive.  While their love scenes would have never made the final cut in the original Austen masterpiece, and while I would never dare to compare this work with the original, I can’t help but feel happy that Darcy and Lizzie have finally consummated their well deserved happy-ever-after.

Such a delightful, fun read!  Fans of the timeless lovers will truly enjoy REALLY ANGELIC.
