Sara Anders was a human woman from the protectorate of Terra known as a Scorcher serving the Alliance. She had traveled the universe from one contaminated planet to another, burning plague victims to ensure that the planet was able to support life form again. Sara was taken captive and introduced into the world of slavery.

Athon Kellan of the Nyal Imperium, is a mixture of Azon, Dhemon, and Nyal species. His ship went down and he was purchased by Meyi, a merchant in need of a fighter for the illegal rings. Athon was now a prized fighter and had made Meyi tons of money since his arrival.

Because of his genetic makeup, Athon was coming into his mating season. As a reward and to keep any of his workers from getting hurt Meyi decided to buy a partner for Athon and went to the slave market. There Sara was sold to him to fulfill that need.

Athon and Sara immediately feel a reaction to each other as soon as they meet. She had been informed of her duties, but is relieved to be able to take pleasure and not have to have sex for the sole purpose of survival. Her body heats as does his in response to each other and there is no denying something more is there beside the animalistic need that is his nature. Athon knows in the most unlikely places in the most unlikely circumstances he has found his mate.

Now Athon just has to convince Sara that their joining was more than just necessity for him. He also has to worry about protecting her from their surroundings and figure out a way to get her out of the less than desirable situation.

SCORCHER was a great Sci-fi read filled with excitement and sexual tension. Viola Grace’s description of the characters and their surroundings were very detailed and easily imaginable. Athon was an appealing hero with his strong noble traits, good looks, and just a hint of bad boy in him. Sara was just as likeable with her ability to think fast and face things head on. This had me wanting to read more about the unique universe depicted and I look forward to her other books on Terra.
