Neri has met plenty of monsters in her day, only they were of the human variety, so paranormal creatures don’t bother her. After trying unsuccessfully to leave her possessive boyfriend, Jason Carrick, a small time mobster, Neri knows death is probably just around the corner for her. When they enter Moonlight & Magic, one of the biggest paranormal clubs around, she knows she has to try to escape one final time before it’s too late.

Knuckles, the “right hand man” of the owners of Moonlight & Magic, is a gargoyle who has given up on love, forever a slave to the sunlight.  He is made for protecting life and loves his job of keeping the peace. He has had his eye on Jason’s group all night. When he senses trouble with Jason and Neri, he steps in to rescue her, but is blown away by the attraction he feels for her. He views himself as ugly and awkward, thinking he has no chance with a beautiful woman such as Neri.

Neri feels the connection to Knuckles every bit as much as he does. When he rescues her and takes her back to his place, she can’t help but act on it. Knuckles can’t believe his luck when she pursues an intimate relationship with him. Passion explodes between the two. However, Knuckles wants more than one night of fireworks with her. Neri has trusted him with her life; can she accept him and trust him with her heart as well?

More pleasure ensues at Moonlight & Magic in Mina Carter’s SUNLIGHT & SLAVERY, a largely character driven story that merges paranormal creatures and humans quite nicely.  I was taken with the yin-yang that was Knuckles, large and tough on the outside, yet vulnerable and cautious on the inside. Despite Neri’s experiences with life, she had an air of innocence that was quite refreshing as well.  This was a very entertaining read that blends tenderness with explosive energy. I think most paranormal fans will enjoy.
