Brenna Sweetwater has hit rock bottom. After losing her job, she has had to live off the money made from selling her car, which is running out fast. Sitting in her apartment, lit only by candlelight, with her nightly dinner that consists of a peanut butter sandwich, Brenna knows she will be homeless by Christmas if her luck doesn’t change. When a man shows up at her door she just knows he is a bill collector or someone sent to repossess the last of her meager belongings. To Brenna’s surprise, the attorney, Mr. Wick, is there to inform her that a great aunt has just passed away and left her both property and money in Scotland.

With nothing to lose she hops on the next plane to claim her inheritance. It seems she is now the owner of a vintage clothing store. Hoping this venture turns out to be the start of something good, Brenna explores her new shops contents, coming across an old kilt and kilt pin.  Mysteriously drawn to them, she decides to try on the kilt and pin. The moment she does, Brenna finds herself transported into Highlander Brogan MacLachlan’s castle in ancient Scotland. Spending Christmas Eve in the arms of the delicious looking Scot was not something she’d ever fathomed, but is an idea she quickly warms up to. The magic that brought her to Brogan may just give Brenna the new start she seeks and a love she never dreamed possible.

THE MYSTICAL KILT had me wanting to hit some vintage clothing shops in search of a kilt of my own. Kerri Nelson delivers a good read, great setting, and charming characters. From the small candlelit apartment to the vast Scottish Castle, the surroundings drew me in. The way in which Ms. Nelson approaches time travel has me eagerly hoping she will visit this aspect again soon. This is a tale all Highland lovers can appreciate.
