The Strength of the Wolf

Veronica has been a wolf for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately, her memory is not very long.   She cannot remember anything from her past. However, her dreams lead her to believe that she has a brother. The dreams do not tell her where to find him. Veronica often wonders if her brother is real or a figment of her imagination.

David Hardway loves nature and the outdoors, especially Canoe Park in Ontario. While snowshoeing in the park, he discovers a female wolf caught in an illegal steel trap.   David releases the wolf and takes her to his sister, a veterinarian, for treatment.   After she heals, David releases the wolf back into the park so that she can be with her own kind.   Veronica makes plans to meet him as a woman after overhearing that David will visit the park in the summer.

In the months between her release back into the wild and David's return to Canoe Park, Veronica re-acclimates herself to the human world. She hopes to meet David as a human female and seduce him. Unfortunately, when David returns to the park, she sees that he is not alone.   His nephew is with him.

When a lovely young woman unexpectedly appears at his campsite, David is intrigued by her but he is also cautious since she appears at a time when his nephew, Linc, is in trouble for computer hacking. The mysterious woman introduces herself as Veronica and informs them that her boyfriend  abandoned her in the wilderness.

As things between David and Veronica heat up, problems from her past are apparently connected to Linc's present trouble. Linc has received a threatening e-mail regarding the computer hacking.   When Linc informs David, he begins to wonder whether Veronica is really an innocent victim as she has led him to believe or is she part of the threat to Linc's safety?   Will David be able to keep his loved ones safe from harm when things turn dangerous?   Will Veronica ever remember who she truly is and, if so, can she find the brother she believes she may have somewhere out there?

THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF is the second book by Jorrie Spencer in the STRENGTH series that I have had the pleasure of reading.   This fantastic story is filled with passion, adventure, and suspense. Veronica is the missing sister of Seth Kolski, hero in the first book, THE STRENGTH OF THE PACK.   While this book can be read as a stand-alone story, readers will have a greater love and understanding of the characters if they know the history detailed in the first STRENGTH book.

David Hardway is a marvelous hero.   He is an honorable man with a huge heart.   I fell in love with him in the first chapter when he rescued Veronica while in her wolf form.   Veronica proves to be a strong heroine with a deeply caring nature even though she was physically and mentally scarred by some horrible event in the past. I loved reading this wonderful romance with its suspenseful overtones. I will be watching for more of Spencer's books in the future. If you enjoy a bit of mystery with your paranormal love story, this is definitely the book for you.
