As a small-town cop, Jessica Winters is mostly content with her life. Her days are peaceful and quiet. Then, a teenage girl is found murdered.

Whispers among the townsfolk whirl through the small village in record time. Rumors and secrets spread like wildfire in a roar of uncovered truths, or perhaps just gossip. It is Jess’s job to determine what is fact and what is fiction.

Talk manifests into accusations. Locals turn against the newcomers and outsiders. Alliances are tested when no one knows whom to believe.

Jess turns to the one person she trusts to help her through this investigation, the town physician David Stuart, a respectable and honest man within the community. Together, they will sort through the mystery of who killed Sarah and why.

A QUIET PLACE IN THE COUNTRY by Heather Parker is an easy read. The characters stay on task from beginning to end without many distractions. The mystery is well intertwined with the logistics of a small town. The twists in the investigation keep you reading until you find out the identity of the real killer.
