Norman is going out of town to meet up with some friends from dental school and he is leaving his cat, Cuddles, with Hannah.  While Carrie is on her honeymoon, Hannah’s sister, Michelle, will be staying with her and working in Claire’s place at their mother’s shop.  With the two cats sleeping in her bed, Hannah is not getting much sleep.

 

Stephanie Bascombe, the mayor’s wife, is having a gala, a three-day charity event to raise money for several projects called the Lake Eden Combined Charities.  She needs Hannah to make some confections for the event.  Lisa’s husband Herb, an amateur magician, wants to enter the talent contest part of the event.  However, he needs Hannah to fill in, which she grudgingly agrees to do, since his partner is not available.  Hannah is even more upset when she discovers that the host of the event will be Professor Bradford Ramsey, the jerk with whom she has a history.  She only hopes no one finds out about it.  However, when she sees him, he doesn’t even remember Hannah.  But the night of the event, he suddenly remembers her and threatens to get close to Hannah’s younger sister if Hannah is not nice to him.  Feeling as if she could kill him with her bare hands, she barely manages to keep her mind on the act.  Afterwards, she goes back to change clothes and upon leaving the dressing room, she is shocked to discover the professor’s body.  In addition, the two men in her life seem to be deserting her; Mike tells her that she should marry Norman, as he will be better for her and upon Norman’s return, things are awkward between them; he treats her like a friend, instead of his love.  In the midst of investigating the murder, Hannah, as always, receives assistance from her family, who love playing amateur sleuth.  Why are the men in her life suddenly deserting her?  Can she solve the murder before she is the next victim?

 

APPLE TURNOVER MURDER, the thirteenth book in the HANNAH SWENSEN MYSTERY WITH RECIPES series, is an intriguing, action-packed cozy romantic mystery.  Between her shop, the murder investigation and the trouble with the men in her life, Hannah is stressed out.  Fortunately, Lisa and some friends are handling the shop.  Business is booming, as Lisa recounts the night of the murder and Hannah’s discovery of the body to the patrons of the shop.  Lisa is an excellent storyteller, even though she stretches the truth, she keeps her customers spellbound.  Filled with humor, mystery, suspense, an intriguing plot, surprises and plot twists, this book is delightful and the recipes are scrumptious.  For those who have read the other books in this series, it is like revisiting old friends, as you are brought up to date with the characters that are also in the other books in this series.  I highly recommend APPLE TURNOVER MYSTERY for those looking for an enjoyable and mysterious read.
