Behind the Shadows

Kira Douglas, a reporter with an Atlanta newspaper, wants to donate a kidney to save her mother, but the results change her life forever. The doctor tells her she is not Katy Douglas’s biological daughter. Thrown into a tailspin, Kira vows to find out what happened, to find her mother’s daughter and convince her to donate a kidney. Kira enlists the help of Chris Burke, a longtime family friend, but there are those who don’t want the secret of switched babies discovered at all.

During her search, Kira comes face to face with Max Payton, the lawyer for Katy’s “real” daughter, but also a man to whom Kira can’t fight her attraction. Max has a duty to protect his client, but Kira has the power to tear down the walls he has built around his heart. Can the two solve the mystery and reconcile their priorities?

Patricia Potter has written a tale of intrigue that also sheds light on the importance of organ donation. She also highlights the strong relationships between mothers and daughters and how saving lives can bring even strangers closer together. While the story focuses on the mystery and the relationship between Kira and Max, Potter also introduces a secondary relationship that will touch the hearts of all true romantics. Potter has created a terrific story of intrigue, important ideals and a touching storyline. I look forward to reading more of her work. She gives the readers hints along the way along with a few red herrings, so the ending remains a surprise when we realize who is behind the shadows.
