Blake Atherton has built a career out of his love for the sport of ice hockey.  He plays minor league but has created his own line of sportswear that has turned him a tidy profit.  Off the radar though is his considerable wealth accumulated through his beloved maternal grandparents’ business.  He’s a man accustomed to getting what he wants and would never consider treating a woman as a possession the way Lohan obviously does.  He can tell from Alicia’s demeanor and the shots of whiskey he witnessed her downing before the auction that she needs help and he’s determined to be her hero.

 

Blake isn’t a stupid man.  He’s well aware that Lohan could be a dangerous enemy but that doesn’t stop him from outbidding the man for an evening with Alicia at his own auction.   He’s undeniably attracted to Alicia and it’s obvious the feeling is mutual but Alicia is aware of just how ruthless her husband can be and doesn’t want Blake to put himself at risk for her.  Blake has other ideas though, he’s determined to help her escape her marriage and marry her himself but in order to do so it’ll take a little time and help from his teammates as well as his grandmother.  In the meantime Blake and Alicia find time to spend together whenever she visits his grandmother – after all, Leighton Beverly is worth billions and there’s no way Lohan can deny her visits with such an important contact.  What none of them anticipate is Lohan’s extreme agitation at losing control of Alicia or his suspicions – and with his legitimate businesses failing, his illegal activities are going to become very difficult to hide unless he can force Alicia to sign over her inheritance.  It’s a dangerous situation that’s about to become lethal, but when all’s said and done will the love Alicia and Blake share prove to be everlasting?

 

Christy Poff writes intense storylines in many different genres and never fails to captivate me with the twists and turns she adds throughout the plot.  With her newest release, NO DEAL, readers are introduced to Alicia and Blake, two characters who fall in love despite the obvious danger her husband presents.  I have to confess to a morbid fascination with Lohan’s underhanded and abusive practices and how unremorseful he is about anything he’s done.  Alicia has suffered his abuse for so many years it’s easy to understand how difficult it is to break the hold he’s had on her but Ms. Poff does an amazing job depicting just how much strength and determination she possesses.  If you’re a hockey fan then I think you’d take great pleasure in the amount of care Ms. Poff puts into the rink and team scenes but even if you aren’t then you’ll certainly appreciate the friendship and amount of effort the team puts into their beloved sport.
