Charity Prewitt, the town librarian, had not originally expected her life to be so mundane.  While she had big dreams to see the world after graduating from college, her practicality and loving nature kept her in her hometown to aid her elderly aunt and uncle.  Life is nice, but by no means exciting.  When wealthy Nicholas Ames, stockbroker extraordinaire, enters her quiet little town, the lovely librarian is breathlessly swept up in his passionate embrace.  A man like Nick surely won’t be staying long and Charity plans to savor every stolen moment in his arms.  Little does she know that the businessman she is falling for has a dangerous hidden agenda.

Nick Ireland, special operative and ex-Delta Force soldier, is on the trail of one of world’s most heinous men.  Assuming the identity of a wealthy businessman makes it easy for him to get close to kind and gentle Charity Prewitt.  She, unknowingly, is the only person who can help him catch an unconscionable killer.  Nick is good at his job – he is not called the Iceman for nothing and he will lie, cheat, and seduce to save innocents from a cold-blooded sociopath.  Though trained to handle any unexpected obstacle during a mission, Nick doesn’t anticipate the sweet beguilement of Charity Prewitt, a lady who epitomizes everything he has never dared to want.

Reading a book by Lisa Marie Rice is like savoring a fine glass of rare wine; it goes down smooth and creates a searing warmth to be relished and enjoyed.  The sensual intensity of her writing leaves the reader breathless and eager for more.  So it was with delight that I snatched up DANGEROUS SECRETS when it was offered for review.

Charity Prewitt is a surprisingly strong heroine.  In that I mean, not bitchy, as some authors tend to portray strength in a woman, but a strength of character and resolve that make her such a likable heroine.  She handles life’s unexpected turns with dignity and grace while maintaining a kindness that goes bone deep.  While her plans are detoured, bitterness has no place in her heart and her love of family and friends shines through.  With the entrance of Nick into her life, she is more than willing to enjoy the “here and now” without lamenting his inevitable exit.  Nick is a strong, intense hero who initially seems jaded enough to use a woman’s affections to accomplish his task.  He does, after all, work undercover where seduction is sometimes part of the job.  He surely didn’t expect his reactions to Charity, and it was great fun watching the downfall of such a ruthless yet honorable man.

Pour that glass of wine, put your feet up, turn on the soft music and indulge in Ms. Rice’s latest offering.  All of your senses will be engaged and you’ll be sure to savor the words of DANGEROUS SECRETS.
