Defending Serenity

Boyd Graham has spent the last ten years in prison for defending Serenity Lynn James. What started out as securing her virtue escalated into a bar-fight and resulted into a murder for self defense.  Boyd was the town bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks and Serenity was the judge’s daughter. Having him serve time kept someone like him away from her. She had promised to get him out and tell her father what happened, but no help ever came.

Now that Boyd has been released from prison he can think of only one thing. It’s the same thing he’d thought of every night for the past ten years. He would find a way to have Serenity in his bed again and then exact revenge for her abandoning all those years ago.

Serenity has spent the past ten years trying to deal with what happened that night in the bar. Her father didn’t want her to spend time with someone like Boyd and thought he’d deserved the sentence. She is now a by-the-book Chief of Police who believes in justice.  She wasn’t prepared for the overwhelming mixture of guilt and arousal that she feels when she first sees Boyd again.

When Serenity and Boyd get together again the raw need they have for each other is insatiable. Serenity has to decide if she is drawn to Boyd by something more than the guilt and the past they shared while Boyd has to work through his anger over what happened and deal with the feelings of his heart.

As Serenity works to bring down a drug smuggling ring that is operating in South Alabama and the Florida Gulf Coast, Boyd may have to step in once again to defend her.  Keeping Serenity out of danger may be easier than building a relationship with her, but Boyd is more than willing to do both.

DEFENDING SERENITY is a note-worthy read.  I liked the rough edgy personality of Boyd. He is a bad boy with a soft side underneath. The hardships that he had to suffer and the complexity of his and Serenity’s relationship brought in a nice level of angst to the plot. The sexual chemistry between the two made for a steamy read. Loribelle Hunt does a very nice job of character building. I look forward to reading more from her.
