Katie Converse is a smart girl who has been given an opportunity that most seventeen-year-olds seldom get. She is a Senate page and has been able to pursue her interest in politics in a direct way. Her parents are devastated when she never comes home from walking the dog one day during the Christmas break. Law enforcement and local volunteers search her Portland, Oregon neighborhood in depth with no immediate results. Could Katie have run away or does her blog point to Senator Fairview, also of Portland, as more than just a friendly older man?
Allison, Cassidy and Nicole get drawn further into the case which seems to have many twists and turns, but no hard evidence or leads. As they try to find justice for Katie and her family, they have to deal with their own issues.
The authors do a fabulous job of crafting a fast-paced, suspenseful page-turner. The plot is driven by both the action and well developed characters. The three women are believable and empathic as they juggle the many demands of modern life.
Lis Wiehl has used her background as a federal prosecutor and current work on TV as inspiration for FACE OF BETRAYAL. Readers may see similarities to the Chandra Levy case, which finally has had an arrest.
April Henry has written other mysteries and thrillers that have been nominated for various awards. The two women make a winning team. I look forward to the next Triple Threat novel, HAND OF FATE coming in April 2010.
