After losing her parents to a horrific crime when she was just a child, Harmony Swift dedicated her life to the pursuit of justice as an FBI Agent, even though she finds herself spending her days behind a desk solving copyright infringement crimes.  However, when Harmony’s friend and mentor is kidnapped and held for ransom, Harmony knows that it is up to her to rescue Richard. Harmony also knows that she doesn’t have a prayer of pulling this crazy plan off by herself, and that to get the help she needs, she will have to lie, cheat, steal and break the same laws that she has sworn to uphold.  But for Harmony, this mission is personal, and even if nobody was able to save her parents, she’ll do anything she can to save Richard.

Eight years ago, geeky computer genius Cole Hackett was framed by the FBI and sentenced to twenty-five years in a federal penitentiary.  No longer geeky or naïve, Cole is suspicious when Agent Harmony Swift shows up claiming to have new information that could clear Cole’s name.  His suspicions are confirmed when Agent Swift offers to share the information in exchange for his help in a case.  Cole pretends to go along with Harmony, but he makes sure to have a back-up plan too.  After all, the Feds have screwed him over before, and as cute as Agent Harmony Swift is, Cole will never forget that she is one of them.

It isn’t long before Harmony’s plan falls apart, and she and Cole are on the run from both the FBI and the Russian kidnappers.  As they race across the country, each hiding their own secrets and agenda, Harmony and Cole must slowly learn to put their trust in one another, or their desperate attempt at freeing Richard and clearing Cole’s name will be futile and their lives destroyed.

PACKING HEAT is author Penny McCall’s fourth novel of romantic suspense and has firmly cemented her spot on my auto-buy list of authors.  PACKING HEAT has it all; a great story, non-stop action, snappy dialogue, witty humor and chemistry between the hero and heroine that is white hot.  I’m very happy to give PACKING HEAT the highest possible recommendation of five Blue Ribbons, and I can assure you that it deserves every one.
